We have 2 dogs and they are a mixed breed, standard poodle and Wheaten Terrier (Whoodle). They do not shed so they keep their undercoat and in the summer, the heat takes its toll fast. We do get them groomed but we know if we groom them too short, they get cold too easily. Dog’s do not naturally regulate their own temperature well and so they need help by us in both hot and cold seasons. In the summer, cooling mats for dogs that can overheat in thicker coats are a great item to have on hand. We use this Arc-Chill Pet Cooling Mat by Rywell that is available on Amazon.

This pet self-cooling mat is made of Arc-Chill natural cooling fabric from Japan, which effectively lowers the apparent temperature 3–5°C ( = 5–9°F). It doesn’t have any dangerous chemicals or gels, so no leaking will occur. The magic is in the specific non-toxic fabric and mesh layers. You can actually see the mat working to retain your dogs heat. How you can tell is that when the ambient temperature or the pet’s temperature is higher than 95°F(35°C), the dog mat’s color will lighten. You can wash this by hand or in a washing machine. Take it with you when camping or in car rides.
