My Take (and my 11 year old son’s take):
Track for us is a recommended sport and not a participation sport. Anthony has played soccer for years and every coach comments on his speed. He sprints hard, but is not the best long distance runner. I see it too. This son of mine has a fast, long stride and he just does not see it or really understand track as a multi-sport rather than “just running”.
He actually learned about the actual sport a bit as well as understanding spirit of a sport and finding a place for talents and at age 11 in middle school that is most valuable in sports. You can teach skill, but can’t teach heart!
