Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019

Captain Marvel

My birthday is March 9 so this will be a birthday event for me for sure! Marvel movie night! Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

So, where does this fit in with the previous Marvel movies? It is still a bit unclear I think. What makes me think this is an unofficial prequel to Avengers 4 is in how Infinity War ends. Captain Marvel is set a few decades before Infinity War and other Marvel movies, but when there is a focus on the pager that would indicate the 90’s with Nick Furry at the very end of Infinity War and Maria Hill disappears I can’t help but make that connection. Captain Marvel, we know, is set in the 90’s and that pager is 1990’s inserting itself into today’s Infinity War frame is a huge clue. All we can do is wait. I am not a comic book reader, but I have been told that perhaps going back to the Thanos and Mar-Vell saga may be able to place Captain Marvel and his tie in somehow to the Infinity War or at least what may have led to the War. DUMBO – March 29, 2019

DUMBO movie

This live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets. Original Dumbo DVD!

Save your movie night money fo March!

Penguins – April 17, 2019 (Earth Day)

Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after. I recently shared a movie poster and activity sheets with you, see here for free printable PENGUINS activity sheets!

April 26, 2019 Avengers: End Game

Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.

Another Marvel movie! I love tying this in where they may fit with the other Avengers. Avengers: End Game is not an Infinity War Part II but is described a separate movie along the same time or concurrently with Infinity War. It appears some of the same characters form Infinity war will be seen and what totally excites me….it looks like Hawkeye will get his bigger appearance in Endgame and he is my favorite Avenger! I imagine it will still follow the ‘fight Thanos’ script, but with more Hawkeye (did I mention yet he has more appearances in this movie)? Avengers: Endgame Book (paperback)!
